Delius Special School opened on April 26th 2010 and was formed of children from five other Bradford Special Schools.
Governors wanted to name the school after a famous Bradfordion and decided upon the composer Frederick Theodore Albert Delius (29 January 1862 – 10 June 1934) who was born in Bradford. He later spent time in Florida and then Paris. In America, a small memorial to Delius stands in Solano Grove, Jacksonville. A sculpture also exists (A Quatrefoil for Delius by Amber Hiscott) in Delius’s honor and was erected in Exchange Square, Bradford, and unveiled on 23 November 1993.
